Welcome to AIPS

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

AIPS Statement on COVID-19

AIPS is monitoring the constantly evolving situation with COVID-19. At this time we have not made any decisions regarding the cancellation or alteration to planned programming. Updates will be posted on the AIPS website and Facebook page, and applicants will be emailed directly. Please take any necessary precautions and follow CDC and WHO guidelines.

BULPIP-AIPS 2020 Program

The Berkeley-AIPS Urdu Language Program in Pakistan (BULPIP-AIPS) is accepting applications for its Fall 2020 intensive Urdu language immersion program based at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in Pakistan. The application deadline is February 14, 2020. Apply now!

Junior Faculty Training & Exchange Program

The AIPS Junior Faculty Training and Exchange Program has officially concluded! This Embassy-funded program brought 14 Pakistani scholars to the US and 18 US scholars to Pakistan. The main focus of this grant was to provide a consistent long-term transfer of expertise for capacity building among the faculty members in Pakistan.

AIPS Book Prize

AIPS Book Prize 2020 Announcement. Deadline: January 10, 2020

The deadline is quickly approaching! AIPS is soliciting books (single authored monographs, no edited volumes) published during the last three years, or nearly published books (galleys must be available) for the annual AIPS Book Prize.  Please note that this is an academic book prize (literary fiction/short stories are not appropriate for this prize), and only English language books are eligible at this time.  The award recipient will receive a monetary prize from AIPS ($1,000).
